Kungliga Tekniska högskolan,

At KTH School of Architecture, there is an ongoing initiative within Applied Urban Design supported by KTH and the Arwidsson Foundation. The aim is to contribute to theories, methods and tools with the ability to support an urban design practice. The research engages in the fields of urban morphology, spatial analysis, space syntax, and design theories and in many projects, a co-creation approach is applied.

Job description

The aim is to develop the understanding of the relation between the built environment – urban form and physical structures – and social processes. This includes architecture, urban design and spatial planning as influenced by cultural, economic, ecological and political phenomena while at the same time conditioning such phenomena, and this relation is critically explored.

The research is expected to engage with the role of architecture/urban design in relation to segregation, unequal living conditions, gentrification, directly or indirectly related to climate change challenges. How public space and resource distribution relates to questions of power and urban inequalities needs to be approached critically and analytically. Focus is upon how spatial configurations may be analysed, how living conditions and urban life may be mapped, and to work with pedagogical representations. The work will address inequalities and segregation, and the ‘just city’.
