KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Job description

The progression of conditions such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), liver cirrhosis (LC) and Crohn’s diseases (CD), could be the mediation of interplays between different host tissues, and microbiome. Changes in diet, medication (such as antibiotics), and microbiome could impact the host physiology towards more progression in chronic conditions and also changes in the gut that impair barrier function and release of microbial metabolites, live microorganism and residue into the circulation. Thus, investigating the whole-body multi-omics in the chronic conditions and targeted therapies are the way forward.

Here, we take a holistic approach to understand the role of different tissues and microbiome, together with diet to elucidate the interactions between them. We investigate the relationship between fibrosis process, inflammation, metabolism and microbiome using multi-omics data in CD, CKD & LC. We are now seeking one postdoc with strong skills to first work on performing multi-omics analysis to understand the diseases progression. Second, we aim to develop CRISPR-based method to modify the microbiome targeted to attack specific pathogens as potential future therapy instead of antibiotic administration and overcome resistance. In addition, the post could contribute to the expansion of our recently developed human microbiome atlas.
