School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH

Job description

The division of Mechatronics and Embedded Control Systems is searching for a Product Owner and System Architect for the AD-EYE testbed for Automated Driving and Intelligent Transportation Systems (www.adeye.se). AD-EYE started with a focus on automated vehicle and environment simulation to support research on architectures and safety of an automated driving intelligence ("the brain of an automated vehicle"). So far, some 17 person years have been invested into the effort and now that we have scaled up, about 10 person years will be added every year. While the original goal stands, the effort has grown to encompass vehicular and ITS integration and digital twin development, driven by opportunities in enhancing safety and innovation made possible by collaborative cyber-physical systems. Core assets of AD-EYE include a software base, commercial simulation tools, several powerful computers for simulation, and specialized embedded hardware for particular tasks. In addition AD-EYE uses vehicles such as the KTH RCV research concept vehicle, and test vehicles from our industrial partners.

Your work involves taking ownership of the AD-EYE platform and becoming the link connecting the different projects AD-EYE delivers to, and the development team.

Research projects are constantly evolving, and it will be your job to ensure that the volatility from these projects does not have a direct effect on the development team. You will do this with meticulous planning and anticipating research needs, translating them into achievable requirements that can be grouped and prioritized to meet deadlines. You should be independent with external stakeholders, assess needs and technical solutions and not be afraid to propose alternatives or even say no wherever needed.

You will be working closely with the tech. team lead detailing requirements and acting as a mentor, guiding the team by setting processes, milestones and reviews. The tech-team lead has the role to lead the actual development and to maintain the growing code base for automated driving functions and related models, including implementing and documenting new features, writing test cases, designing, and running experiments in simulation or with vehicles to collect data.

Your key responsibilities include, (1) the architecting of AD-EYE and defining a vision; (2) creating a technical roadmap consistent with the vision; (3) represent the AD-EYE development team in project meetings, supporting the research head in technical discussions and reporting of AD-EYE progress; (4) coordinate the development of AD-EYE including reviews and supervision, prioritization of requirements, and planning for maximizing the use of available resources; and (5) establish and maintain relationships with industrial partners, research groups and suppliers while proactively finding new connections.

Beyond the listed responsibilities, this role requires a level of autonomy in that you will on a daily basis do whatever is needed to improve the testbed, including investigating strategic changes, purchases, project planning, and designing work processes.
