School of Industrial Engineering and Management at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Energy and Environmental Systems, Energy Technology

To achieve rapid decarbonization of the industrial sector, technically efficient and cost-effective solutions integrating of renewable energy sources, electrification of heat, and energy storages are deemed.  We aim to design, and prototype different technologies, including high temperature thermal energy storages and integrated systems. The doctoral student will have a broad perspective focusing on technology development and performing techno-economic analysis to identify optimal integration opportunities.  The main goals of the doctoral work will be to design, prototype and test thermal energy storage and integrated systems including heat pumps; and to perform system level techno-economic assessment. During the work, the PhD candidate is expected to have international cooperation with EU partners.

Supervision: Dr Rafael Guedez, Assoc. Prof. Docent Justin Chiu, and Dr Silvia Trevisan are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission.
