School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Electrical Engineering

A PhD position is available in the framework of the MSCA Doctoral Network GENIUS “Glide-symmetric mEtamaterials for iNnovative radIo-frequency commUnication and Sensing”, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme and by the UK Research and Innovation.

The candidate will work on the definition and the design of low-profile glide-symmetric lenses to improve the angular coverage for SATCOM antennas. She/he will first define different lens profiles to obtain an improved matching over a wide frequency and angle range, by exploring anisotropic materials stable in frequencies synthetized with glide symmetry (GS) configurations. Modelling and design tools will be developed and used to define relevant test vehicles. The structures will be co-designed with an existing radiating panel by taking into account the near-field coupling. Best lens profiles will be selected according to their performance under various illumination condition and according to the required fabrication technology (PCB, additive manufacturing, etc.). The candidate will then be responsible for their fabrication and experimental validation.

The research project will be done at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden for 1.5 years and at Thales Research & Technology (THALES), France for 1.5 years, and again at KTH, Sweden for 1 years. The employment will follow the movement and be placed at the respective host.

Supervision: Oscar Quevedo-Teruel (KTH), Thi-Quynh-Van Hoang (Thales).
