Three fully funded doctoral student positions are available in a new robotics research group at KTH that will explore how to adapt recent advances in AI/ML to improve the capabilities of real autonomous robots in real-world workplaces and public spaces. Autonomy requires a high level of robustness and real-time computation. The students will focus on one of the following research directions:
We aim to leverage "AI foundation models".
All work will be validated in real robot experiments using a real Boston Dynamic’s Spot with an arm.
The group will be led by Assistant Prof. Olov Andersson at the Division of Robotics, Perception and Learning. Previously a senior researcher in the Autonomous Systems Lab at ETH Zurich, he was part of the winning team in the recent DARPA SubT Challenge on autonomy in unknown environments

After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. In the case of studies that are to be completed with a licentiate degree, the total period of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education for two years.
