School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Project description

We are looking for a motivated person with a great interest in medical technology research to work in an interdisciplinary research environment at KTH and KI, with close links to Karolinska University Hospital. The position is advertised as part of the joint KI-KTH doctoral program in Medical Technology (Link). The home university and the main workplace will be KTH.

We conduct research in biomechanical imaging and modelling to improve diagnostic and treatment procedures and prevent various types of injuries and diseases. This project aims to develop new imaging and computational tools for the prevention, diagnosis and follow up of treatment of birth-related injuries. The project focuses on vacuum-assisted births, as evidence suggests that both the woman and the baby are at higher risk of injury when a vacuum cup is used. The research involves the development of experimental and computational methods as well as ultrasound shear wave elastography to improve the assessment of maternal pelvic floor muscle and fetal brain injuries due to childbirth.

Candidates with a background in biomedical engineering, applied physics or equivalent and with research interest in medical imaging are welcome to apply. We are looking for an independent, structured and responsible person with a good ability to collaborate.

Third-cycle subject: Medical Technology

Supervision: Professor Matilda Larsson (KTH), PhD Lotta Herling (KI), PhD Emilia Rotstein (KI), Docent Gunilla Ajne (KI) and Associate Professor Xiaogai Li (KTH) are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
