KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Industrial Engineering and Management

Job description

Addressing climate change is a matter of urgency. A global warming of 1.5oC will have serious consequences, and these will increase considerably at a warming of 2oC (IPCC, 2018). At the same time, the commitments that different countries have made so far lead to a warming of at least 3°C during this century and then continued warming (UNEP, 2020).  If the emission reductions are not achieved with sufficient speed, there is a risk that the climate system passes a threshold value and the temperature increases become self-reinforcing (Steffen et al, 2018). The coming decade will therefore be crucial for making knowledge-based decisions and initiate actions.

To that end, we need integrated research to obtain and communicate the knowledge necessary for taking meaningful actions. And action has to be taken by all societal actors; the research community, business, policy makers and not the least the general public.

To support addressing these global challenges, the KTH Climate Action Centre is a highly collaborative, research-focused and unbiased centre that connects technology, policy and society through:

  • Disruptive multi-disciplinary climate action research
  • Engagement with students and citizens
  • Collaboration with policy and business
  • Strategic partnerships

Two new research assistants will join the centre to support these core activities through a variety of tasks. These include:

  • Maintaining and expanding the centre’s network of affiliated researchers.
  • Gathering and promoting KTH research projects on climate action.
  • Planning and hosting climate action events for students and/or researchers/politicians/businesses etc.
  • Arranging a KTH-wide student competition on climate action.
  • Producing and managing outreach materials on climate action, including video, webpage and social media content for students.
  • Further developing the centre’s strategy of engaging with students.
  • Various other tasks, including representation work, and your own initiatives.

These tasks are shared between the research assistants, as agreed upon. If selected for an interview, you will be asked for your preferences.
