School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Chemical Engineering

Introduction

Are you passionate about sustainable transport technologies and eager to explore the frontiers of emission control in next-generation engines? We are now recruiting a full-time PhD student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology to work on the development and testing of diesel particulate filters (DPFs) tailored for hydrogen combustion engines.

The Role

This PhD project focuses on understanding and addressing the unique emission challenges of hydrogen combustion engines (H2-ICE), with a particular focus on particulate formation and filtration. You will work on the development and evaluation of advanced diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and new particle measurement methods tailored to H2-ICE conditions. The work will combine experimental testing, both in laboratory and engine environments, with advanced material and emission analysis. The position is based at KTH and carried out in close collaboration with Scania, including hands-on testing at their facilities.

Job Responsibilities

You will plan and carry out experimental work related to particle emissions and filtration in hydrogen combustion engines, including lab and engine testing. The work involves developing and applying advanced measurement methods, analysing filter performance, and contributing to scientific publications. Collaboration with Scania’s research team and participation in joint testing activities are an integral part of the project. As a doctoral student at KTH, you will also complete relevant coursework and participate actively in the academic research community.

Your Profile

We are looking for a motivated candidate who enjoys both experimental and theoretical work, and who is driven by curiosity and scientific discovery.

Supervision: Henrik Kusar is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
