School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Subject field

Medical imaging with specialization in imaging technologies in vivo.

Subject description

Medical imaging with specialization in imaging technologies in vivo refers to imaging of the living human body and combines the development of advanced imaging techniques and image processing to improve diagnostics and treatment in healthcare, as well as research addressing medical questions in vivo. These imaging techniques may include several modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray imaging, computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, positron emission tomography (PET), and optical methods, often in combination. The techniques are also often used to extract image-based biomarkers, which can provide valuable information about disease status and treatment response. The subject field includes technical innovation in image acquisition and image analysis, as well as the clinical implementation of these technologies to improve healthcare outcomes and contribute to evidence-based medicine.

Duties

The assistant professor is expected to establish and lead an independent research group in Medical imaging with specialization in imaging technologies in vivo, complementing and collaborating with existing research groups within the Division of Medical Imaging, at the School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The assistant professor is expected to contribute to strengthening KTH’s position within the subject field and to further develop research and the application of advanced imaging techniques in healthcare. This includes initiating new research projects, securing external research funding, establishing collaborations, educating and supervising students and early-career researchers at the master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels, managing the group’s finances, and maintaining a safe, stimulating and sound work environment. The duties also include teaching as well as programme and course development at the bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral level within medical engineering.

In addition, the assistant professor is expected to represent KTH, the CBH School, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Health Systems in scientific and public forums, contribute to academic networks, and develop leadership capabilities to further strengthen medical imaging both nationally and internationally.

The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
